Only PolyAlpha+ offers you the choice of using one synthetic oil with all automotive air conditioning systems, regardless of refrigerant used, and without the worry of hygroscopicity, or incompatibility. One oil for all applications. PolyAlpha+ offers the solution to problems associated with other refrigerant oils, and provides superior lubrication which results in increased efficiency, along with prolonged system performance.
For years, mineral oil was the standard oil for use with refrigerant 12. In 1987, the Montreal Protocol called for the widespread phase-out of many CFC compounds, including R12. When a replacement for automotive R-12 was introduced, we were also told that there would be incompatibilities with the mineral oil that we had become so accustomed to. From that point forward, a new synthetic lubricant called poly alkylene glycol (PAG) would be used in all new automotive systems that were redesigned for use with R134a.
Aside from better chemical and thermal stability, the main reason for bringing this new refrigerant oil to the table was simple. Our support staff, like the aftermarket, could never come to the same conclusions as to which oils were best for every retrofit situation. This holds true especially when you had to consider the variety of alternative blended refrigerants that are also available. We could all agree on one thing. There must be a better oil. We believe Polyalpha+ is that better oil!
